The wrestling journey began in high school when I decided to start wrestling in 9th grade. Although I was a late bloomer when I entered the sport, I was pretty good. My natural ability was evident when I made it to Super Sectionals. I was proud of my accomplishments as a wrestler and often wished that I would have participated in the sport sooner.
Fast forward, I continued to have a profound love for wrestling. So much so that I introduced my son to wrestling when he turned 5 years old. He too began to have a love for the sport as we traveled from county to county and city to city to attend youth wrestling tournaments.
The tournaments were great-they allowed us to bond, but we always felt like something was missing. We would spend hours training, preparing and then experiencing success…only to win “cheesy” prizes like t-shirts and basic medals. Additionally, due to the fee structure, it felt like many wrestling organizations were more focused on profits and not celebrating the wrestlers. We wanted to focus on the wrestlers more and provide what was missing from other wrestling tournaments!
Battle of the Thrones’ goal is to be a leader in this industry with the focus on the wrestler. We believe that wrestling is more than just a sport; it’s a pathway to personal growth and lifelong friendships. Our vision is to empower youth through wrestling by instilling values of perseverance, respect and sportsmanship. Our commitment to excellence remains at the forefront of everything we do.
One of our boasts is that we have the best awards in town – they are custom made and specifically designed for each tournament. We are proud to provide these unique keepsakes to the participants to memorialize their winning experience! Just as important as the awards, is the awards presentation ceremony. While we do believe in prudence and operating with financial responsibility, we also care about celebrating youth and the tenacity it took to achieve their goals.
Battle of the Thrones Youth Wrestling is a world where youth wrestling tournaments will no longer be a small fraction of the world of sports for youth but will expand to be a notable and camaraderie-based sport with a following. We aim to create champions both on and off the mat.
